CITY OF STAUNTON
DIRECTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
The City of Staunton, Virginia (est. pop. 25,750) is located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley nestled between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. The City encompasses an area of 19.98 square miles and is located approximately two hours southwest of Washington D.C The City is seeking an Economic Development Director who will have the exciting opportunity to shape the city’s economic landscape and foster growth. The Director will collaborate with stakeholders to create clear objectives and strategies and engage with the business community to build relationships and drive collaborative efforts towards shared economic goals. Reporting to the City Manager, this position provides direct oversight of two full-time staff and an Economic Development Office FY2024 budget of $1.27 million.
Benefits
- The hiring range for this position is $115,000 – $140,000 based on qualifications and experience

Graduation from an accredited college or university with extensive work in planning, economics, or business administration or the equivalent amount of training and experience in economic development is required. Master’s degree in public administration, business administration or related field and extensive experience at the executive level with municipal government is preferred. Certified Economic Developer through IEDC is preferred. The candidate will be well-versed in local government finance and budget protocols, business finance, including public/private partnerships, construction financing, loans, pro forma statements, and incentive packages. A Virginia Driver’s license or ability to obtain is required. This position is open until filled; however, first review of resumes occurs on May 1, 2024.
