Title: Assistant Teaching Professor of Finance

Position Details

Position Description

The Milgard School of Business at the University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for one Assistant Teaching Professor of Finance (non-tenure track), to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in finance. This position has a 9-month service period, is eligible for a multi-year appointment, and begins on September 16, 2021.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a record of involvement, participation, and/or leadership within their pedagogical or practitioner communities that maintains qualification required for accreditation (AACSB) purposes. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory business finance and other advanced courses in an urban-serving campus environment which includes many first-generation college students. The course load varies from 7-8 classes depending on qualifications, experience, and courses taught.

The successful candidate will also assist in the development of curriculum, promote continuous improvement, and actively collaborate with colleagues in service of our school and university’s mission.

The Milgard School of Business, named in recognition of a multi-million-dollar gift from the Milgard family, enjoys strong relationships with businesses and the South Puget Sound community. The School’s Center for Leadership and Social Responsibility and Center for Business Analytics offer opportunities for teaching, research and community outreach related to its mission. The AACSB-accredited Milgard School currently has more than 777 students in its undergraduate, MBA, Masters in Accounting (MAcc), Masters in Business Analytics (MSBA), and Masters in Cybersecurity and Leadership (MCL) programs. Qualifications

At a minimum, candidates must have a master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in finance or a similar business-related degree.

Qualifications include at least one year experience teaching finance, developing curriculum, and teaching in multiple modalities, including online, hybrid and in-person.

  • A cover letter describing academic qualifications relating to your experience and teaching effectiveness for this position. Candidates should discuss their commitment to teaching students from diverse backgrounds.

  • A teaching statement elaborating the applicant’s teaching philosophy and pedagogical approach. Applicants’ statements should also detail how their teaching, service and/or scholarship has supported the success of students from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented in their academic field; applicants who have not yet had the opportunity for such experiences should note how their work will further UW Tacoma’s commitment to equity and inclusion. Applicants are also encouraged to highlight ways in which they might contribute to the urban-serving mission of the campus.

  • A curriculum vitae.

  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., copies of student evaluations)

  • At least three letters of reference.
