Full Job Description

Role Summary:

This position is responsible for supporting the overall strategic product marketing programs, including managing specific product development activities within a given category. These activities include but are not limited to, identifying consumer insights, guiding new product development and evaluation, pricing, packaging, forecasting, competitive analysis, consumer and trade research and analysis, POP coordination, and involvement in advertising and promotion. Working personally and through subordinates this position will manage, design and produce planned marketing programs while working as part of a lean cross functional team.

Essential Responsibilities:

Strategic Product Category Leadership

  • Establishes strategies and tactical plans for each product. Recommends new product functional specification, pricing, appearance, technology platform, target market, cost target and marketing plan.

  • Recommends criteria to be used in ideas / product programs for evaluating market potential and practicality.

  • Participates in the strategic direction of the brand and marketing communications efforts.

  • Interfaces with the Sales department to establish basic product and channel selling strategies.

  • Works with marketing communications in establish strategic direction for product positioning message, advertising plans, promotions, P.O.P., packaging, sales support materials, etc.

  • Monitors product line P&L. Establishes, under direction of leadership team, annual financial goals including sales, gross margin, COGS, market share, price and mix. Monitors actual results and tracks progress toward goal attainment. Drives corrective actions to improve results and realize business commitments.

  • Shows good judgment and problem solving skills.

Analysis & Market Research

  • Participates in business cases & ROI analysis for new product programs. Drives data gathering

  • Monitors current and new technologies.

  • Monitors competitive activity and product line positioning. Understands competitive product offerings, features, benefits and competitive advantage.

  • Coordinates market research activities to maintain a deep understanding of consumer needs and trends. Is in frequent contact with consumers and retailers. Translates this understanding into products and feature innovations and enhancements.

Team Collaboration

  • Works closely with project leaders in coordinating product line activities between industrial design, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, sales, channel marketing, marketing communications, packaging and finance.

  • Ensure that the core brand values are followed throughout the organization including product development, channel marketing and packaging teams.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in product management and development of relevant consumer products (i.e. OEM, OPP, etc) strongly preferred

  • Demonstrate able experience in working with and coordinating activities with more than one of the following: Consumer Research, Industrial Design, Development Engineering, Sales, Channel Marketing, Advertising campaigns, National Media Strategies, and e-commerce.

  • Must be adaptable with ability and willingness to efficiently manage multiple priorities and business demands that continuously shift in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to lead development of effective tactics.

  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated financial analysis ability required

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively lead/facilitate teams. Able to work effectively with internal and external resources

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including effective presentation skills, one-on-one communication, creative writing, technical writing and report writing

  • Demonstrated project management skills. Attention to detail. Results-oriented. Working knowledge of Microsoft Project, Power Point and Excel.

  • Team player with an entrepreneurial drive and high integrity; Positive attitude and ability to motivate and energize others.

  • Must be willing and able to work outside of regular business hours, including nights and weekends

  • Experience working with Asian counterparts and OEM suppliers highly desirable.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required; MBA a plus.

  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally.
