Position Summary:
This position supports the Azamara brand and is responsible for all aspects of the global tax function, encompassing all direct and indirect taxes (income tax, VAT, sales tax, excise tax, property tax, etc.) in all countries where the company has offices or ships deployed. The tax function is comprised of (1) global tax strategy (tax planning, monitoring and adapting to global changes in tax law, enabling business initiatives tax efficiently, minimization of tax risk globally, global tax audits and litigation) and (2) global tax operations (forecasting and variance analysis, income tax reporting and disclosures, designing and implementing controls over tax processes, global preparation and submission of tax returns or compliance obligations). This role requires the ability to collaborate across multiple departments and effectively communicate complex technical subject matter to key stakeholders in a simple and concise manner. In addition, this role requires the ability to direct multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic and fast paced environment, across a global environment with cultural nuances.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategizes, designs and maintains overall global structure of the Company from a global tax perspective (including income taxes, sales taxes, VAT, property taxes, excise taxes), including monitoring and recommending changes to the corporate structure for changes in tax law or circumstances and/or changes in business operations.

Advises senior executive management and various business partners across the organization of the global tax implications of business activities and initiatives as well as tax risks the company faces.

Collaborates with operational teams across the organization to understand business objectives, and then design, operationalize, and implements strategies and structures which enable the transactions, acquisitions and other business initiatives, while minimizing tax risk and maximizing global tax efficiency.

Pro-actively identifies opportunities to improve company’s bottom line or return on invested capital and collaborate with various departments such as legal, accounting, treasury, deployment, audit, finance, strategy to implement identified strategies.

Oversees and manages the forecasting of global tax expense and variance analysis.

Ensures tax compliance (tax returns, reporting and disclosure) obligations of the company are met globally.

Develops, implements and executes controls for key tax processes.

Monitors and ensures compliance with global tax laws and regulations in all countries where we have operations ( all countries where we have shoreside offices and/or where ships are deployed) .

Monitors case law and tax legislation, as well as identify future potential legislation/trends, and advises senior management of potential impact any changes may have on the Company.

Collaborates closely with Deployment teams to assess tax impacts of proposed ship deployment, including optimization of itineraries from a tax perspective, and ensuring compliance with tax requirements for global fleet (e.g., income tax returns, sales/VAT tax charged onboard ships).

Liaises with and manages the work of outside tax counsel, global tax professionals, global finance teams and directs projects for which such individuals are engaged.

Represents the Company before US and foreign tax authorities and negotiates settlements on behalf of the Company as needed.

Oversee continuous improvement of department processes, including opportunities for automation or increased accuracy .
Job Requirements
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

5+ years at an international public accounting firm or law firm with specific experience in global taxation and SEC reporting, or 5+ years experience in a senior position in an in-house corporate tax department.

MBA, Master of Science in Taxation or Juris Doctor.

Certified Public Accountant or Juris Doctor.

Excellent judgment and the ability to make decisions and assess acceptable levels of business risk.

Comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment as part of a growing business and organization.

Ability to effectively communicate with executive management, including the ability to simplify complex legal concepts.

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Strong technical research skills.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Technical proficiency in ASC 740 and global tax laws.

Ability to partner with business partners to enable objectives, while minimizing risk to company’s tax profile.

Ability to collaborate across departments and cultures with various internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodical, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.

Typical PC and software skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, on-line research tools.

While no prior experience in selection of new systems or partners is required, the company is transitioning from one set of legacy systems/processes to a new tax infrastructure as part of a separation from its prior corporate owner. The employee in this position will play an integral role in building out the Tax function going forward as part of that transition.
