The Executive Director position combines the expectations of an executive non-profit leader with the experience of innovative educational leadership. This role includes active engagement with the Polaris Tech Board of Directors, school operations and school effectiveness, educational learning strategies, all aspects of corporate and community engagement, and business and financial management.
The Executive Director serves as the executive officer and will be responsible for creating a school climate and learning culture that reflects the Polaris Tech mission ‘to unleash potential, cultivate aspirations and graduate students who are career-focused, college-ready and invested in the community’, ensuring Polaris Tech’s positive and sustained impact on student and family outcomes, bridging learning to industry interests and community needs, and most importantly ensuring that each learner meets his or her achievement goals.
The centerpiece of Polaris Tech’s learning system is a competency-based curriculum that includes 21st Century Career Pathways including aerospace, health science, information technology, logistics, advanced manufacturing, and business management. The Career Pathways are reinforced by a rigorous course of individualized academic study delivered through a blended and adaptive educational content technology, with a focus on work and life skills, and balanced by an emphasis on the social and emotional health and wellness of each student. Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Strategic leadership, in concert with Board guidance • Help develop, manage and monitor Polaris Tech’s strategic plan. • Develop and sustain strategic partnerships aligned to the Career Pathways. • Develop and sustain community relationships. • Develop and sustain SC Public Charter School District relationship.
Academic Innovation & Impact • Ensure the effective implementation and fidelity of Polaris Tech’s innovative and comprehensive model of education. • Oversee the work of the Director of Teaching, Learning and Accountability and the Director of Programs to ensure operational, academic and instructional success. • Establish a learning culture to meet and exceed the Performance Framework goals and objectives. • Provide resources and direction to the staff to improve teaching and learning.
Educational Content & Delivery Systems Strategies • Monitor and analyze the benefits of new and trending electronically delivered content and delivery tools to maximize an individualized school experience. • Ensure that the Information Technology infrastructure optimizes the delivery of educational services to staff and students when, where and to whom they will be most effective. • Optimize resources to provide the educational and professional development opportunities to ensure that the teaching and administrative staff use the Information Technology tools effectively.
Financial, Legal & Operations Acuity • Oversee the work of the Director of Finance and Operations to build capacity to be financially sustainable. • Oversee and administer annual, 5-year and 10-year budgets. • Establish and nurture relationships with funding resources. • Oversee compliance of programs for school, district, state, and federal reporting mandates.
Coherent Governance • Participate in all standing Board Committees and oversee the Executive Team to promote shared decision-making and accountability for approaches to operations, instruction, school management and student outcomes. • Adhere to and implement Board policies, corresponding rules, and regulations. • Report Polaris Tech Charter School needs to the Board of Directors. • Establish and maintain transparent communications with board members • Help establish monthly board meeting agendas • Report school and student data as prescribed in the monitoring plan.

Deadline: February 5, 2021
1. Successful tenure (at least three years) in a public, private or non-profit leadership role, preferably with a startup enterprise or charter school.
2. Experience leading a complex, multi-pronged, mission driven enterprise.
3. Valid South Carolina administrative credential (preferred but optional).
4. Master’s degree (MBA, MPA, M. Ed) or equivalent experience.
5. Demonstrated strategic understanding of and commitment to personalized learning, student-centered strategies and competency-based progression to mastery aligned to student and industry goals and interests.
6. Demonstrated ability to forge successful collaborative relationships with business, industry and community partners.
7. Demonstrated understanding of the strategic design and implementation of instructional, content and administrative technologies.
8. Exhibits a commitment to promoting academic freedom, trust, and respect among faculty members and school staff.
9. Well versed in promoting a positive achievement-oriented, learning culture among staff and students.
10. Demonstrates outstanding oral and written communication skills.
11. Professional development and experience in adult mentoring.
12. Successful grant writing and fund development experience desired.
