Financial Operations Manager

The Financial Operations Manager will provide leadership and analytical oversight for NPN’s Finance Team. The Finance Manager will work closely with the Finance Director to fully utilize available data by developing analytical tools to show current trends and opportunities, as well as predictive models to explain financial results. This role will be instrumental in developing the analytical infrastructure to allow for a greater understanding of the underlying financial landscape.

Status: Regular, Full-time, FLSA Exempt

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Create user-friendly tools to help measure, manage and report on available data
  • Analyze business processes and assist in implementing recommended improvements with financial emphasis
  • Collect data and perform root cause analysis, propose solutions to current and future needs
  • Collaborate with Finance Team to build operational workflows
  • Create analytical views on financial and claims data to help interpret historical results, stay current on developing trends and forecasting possible future trends
  • Analyze and evaluate present or proposed business procedures or problems to define data needs
  • Perform budget versus actual analysis on various business lines
  • Critically evaluates data to detect discrepancies that may indicate data quality issues
  • Document system problems and resolutions for future reference
  • Ad-hoc analytical projects
  • Lead and manage special projects that may necessitate cross-functional partnerships
  • Prepare month end, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Work closely with leadership to develop operating, G&A, and capital budgets
  • Manages IBNR Accrual and analysis

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted (GAAP) accounting practices and experience managing external auditors
  • Commercially astute, articulate, technically strong, insightful and influential leader with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
  • Detailed knowledge of healthcare insurance industry, contract negotiations, and IPA business model
  • Knowledge and familiarity with healthcare data systems, accounting systems, Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint
  • Skill in gathering, interpreting, analyzing, and reporting financial information
  • Skill in exercising initiative, judgement, problem solving, and decision-making
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal staff, network practices, Board of Managers, clients, regulators, public, and all other associated stakeholders
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing to achieve NPN strategic goals and objectives
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data and reports
  • Knowledge of specific communication needs with the ability to listen actively and respond to internal and external customers in a timely, competent manner both verbally and in writing
  • Strong IT skills, awareness of developing new technologies
  • Ability to handle high levels of pressure and critical decision-making
  • High integrity and openness combined with commitment to good governance

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, MBA or CPA preferred

Experience:

  • 5 years of relevant experience in analysis, reporting and work flow development in the healthcare industry
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw logical conclusions
  • Experience with and aptitude for utilizing a data warehouse to obtain, analyze and summarize information
  • Familiar with Healthcare capitation and full-risk healthcare contracts
