Procurement Senior Specialist, Discovery Sciences

The selected candidate will utilize the Sourcing Management Process for strategic analysis of suppliers, supply markets and supply chains within Discovery Sciences category. This role will work for an Associate Director to provide high quality strategic analysis and insight of Discovery Sciences. In addition, the sourcing Senior Specialist will prepare and conduct pre-negotiation planning, live negotiations as well as leading and conducting RFPs, RFQs, quotation analysis, and cost modeling.
Supplier and Supply Market Analysis – Conducts a detailed supplier and supply market analysis looking at facts and data analysis, reports and changes in technology and with the objective of providing deep and meaningful insight to sourcing category leads
Cost Analyses – Employs or develops detailed cost models/purchase price analysis of goods and services that are supplied to our company using available data.
Strategic Analysis – Conducts project analysis which turns the information gathered from 1) and 2) above into insightful, well structured breakthrough options and opportunities. Examples include Portfolio Analysis, Supplier Preferencing and Day One Sourcing.
Sourcing – Understands the supplier strategy developed by the sourcing category leads and executes action plans to achieve the sourcing team’s objectives. Develops sourcing strategies for Discovery Sciences categories and projects using the Sourcing Management Process. Participation in category group strategies and implementation programs. Liaise with the Sourcing Category Leads to ensure spend is managed in line with the agreed sourcing strategy. Assists in evaluating potential suppliers on specific issues. Familiarity with the various suppliers and product lines available in stakeholder areas. Assists in analyzing the customer’s business and evaluate if there are potential savings through supplier consolidation. Creates and executes RFI’s, RFP’s
Negotiation Planning and Execution – Creates detailed pre-negotiation plans, to lead and participate any prolonged negotiation sessions with suppliers and to conduct post negotiation debriefs and follow through plans
Contract Management – Prepares, implements, and audits compliance with appropriate contract. Resolves chronic issues regarding supplier delivery of assurance of supply, quality and service and documents agreed to resolution.
Supplier Performance Management – Monitors, reports, manages and seeks to continuously improve supplier performance. Acts as a primary point of contact for supplier interactions and assists in supplier’s performance assessments. Maintains a working knowledge of supplier’s organization, product lines, contractual agreements and transportation terms. Compiles information to be incorporated in Supplier’s Scorecard. Assists Sourcing Managers in analyzing departmental spends with certain suppliers and recommends consolidation or redirection to preferred suppliers. Conducts periodic supplier surveys/evaluations/visits and provides feedback to sourcing managers.
Category Team Membership – Acts as an active member of one or more category teams using the techniques and content created in 1) to 8) above as input in the creation of breakthrough strategies
Problem Solving – Able to identify a problem, analyze full issue, develop solutions, implement those solutions, then evaluate results of the proposed solutions.
Skills – Excellent communication, relationship, and leadership skills are required. Must be adaptable in dealing with ambiguous and complex environments. Able to effectively lead work within diverse cross functional teams to achieve client, department, and company goals.
Education Minimum Requirement:
Required: BS in Business, Finance, Science, Engineering or related field
Preferred: MBA or advanced degree are desirable
Required Experience and Skills:
A minimum of 3+ years of experience in roles such as, but not limited to, procurement, supply chain, contract management, drug discovery research, and/or pharmaceutical/biologics manufacturing
Ability to understand the drug development process to engage with senior stakeholders to understand business requirements and impact to the global strategy.
Ability to manage projects and influence stakeholders remotely.
Proficient in the use of personal computers and business software.
Excellent organization and oral/written communications.
Excellent collaboration and teambuilding skills.
Demonstrated negotiation skills.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Experience managing international business relationships

Certification in six sigma or knowledge operational excellence
