Senior Finance Business Partner

Job Summary

The role helps Flagstar provides informational and financial support for key strategic business initiatives for executive, senior management, and the Board of Directors. This position delivers financial insight and analysis to business partners that have varying degrees of financial and strategic prowess. Role includes the following –
1. Model building. Modeling expected future business performance given macroeconomic factors and the business strategies taken in light of those factors. Intensive data modeling and analysis to validate hypothesis.
2. Analysis of financial results. Analyze actual results compared to expected results to advise the business with insightful feedback on its strategies and performance.
3. Ad hoc analysis as directed by the business, including business case analyses to support decisions around new products, capital expenditures, and hiring.
4. Ability to use and leverage Business Intelligence and analytical tools like Python to provide real-time insights on business and operational drivers.
5. Profitability analysis of customers, products and geographies.
6. Collaboration and ability to build effective relationships. Effective cross-functional co-ordination required with various Business and Finance teams to drive results and being in a position of being able to influence business decisions and analyses.
7. High level of customer service. Providing not just financial reporting but also analytics that provide understanding to stakeholders of underlying business drivers. Analyzing large datasets of information to distil insightful trends or relationships to inform conclusions
8. Skilled in the graphical representation of information in the form of charts and dashboards with programs and tools such as Excel, Tableau, or Power BI.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Implement a comprehensive understanding of business and financial metrics that drive results. Use understanding to provide value-added analysis to Mortgage Originations and Finance leadership through Business Unit Reviews (BURs), profitability reporting, monthly close meetings, and other high-impact recommendations to senior managers.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership, ability to provide analytics & modeling on tight timelines, articulating complex business problems and proactive stakeholder management. % Develop and maintain relationships with key business leaders and provide continued support/development of annual strategy and budgeting process including related presentations/modeling and variance analysis.
  • Communicate with senior management to identify risk and opportunities, measure the financial impact and partner with management team to solve issues.
  • SEC Reporting, industry benchmarking, allocation and ad hoc analysis, and other special projects as needed by management.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Complete all required compliance training. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar’s internal compliance policies and procedures. Take responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required + 3-5 years of experience in Financial Services preferably most in Mortgage.
  • Master’s degree (MBA) + 1-2 years of experience in Financial Services preferred, preferably most in Mortgage.
  • MBA is a plus.
  • CPA is a plus.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and exceptional data analysis, financial modeling and analysis skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint required.
  • Knowledge of Hyperion or other financial reporting system.
  • Basic knowledge of databases (Oracle/Access) and SQL.
  • Ability to work in close coordination with key finance and business unit leaders to drive results.
  • Experience communicating financial results at the executive level.
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • Team player in a dynamic work environment.
