Overview:
The Intern will support the commercial loan origination efforts of East West Bank in specific geographical markets as assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for helping full-time staff in the Asset Backed Finance group originate and underwrite formula-based credit facilities for middle market companies based in North America and select international geographies. Target companies include privately held, sponsor-backed, and small-cap public companies with $5 million to $50 million of financings needs. Primary performance responsibilities include drafting pre-screen memorandums, independently prospecting, data-mining, compiling lists of target private equity firms and other appropriate referral sources, and helping the Asset Backed Finance group drive financial results for the bank.
Responsibilities:

Independently research borrower and private equity prospects based on the assigned group’s target profile.

Assist with due diligence/analysis with new client relationships, opportunity memos as appropriate.

Assist senior team members make presentations on specific loans and participate in the bank’s Loan Approval Process, recommending approval and appropriate structure of credits.

Participate in portfolio management and loan review as appropriate.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field. In-process MBA, MFin, CFA, or equivalent.

Must have experience building spreadsheets in Excel.

Familiar with prospecting and sales pipeline concepts.

0-3 years of experience in commercial lending, ideally within specialty lending group or private debt fund.

Basic credit underwriting skills.

High energy level and the ability to work in a face-paced, dynamic business environment.

Ability to work independently.

Good communication and organizational skills.
