Overview:

The Intern will support the commercial loan origination efforts of East West Bank in specific geographical markets as assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for helping full-time staff in the Asset Backed Finance group originate and underwrite formula-based credit facilities for middle market companies based in North America and select international geographies. Target companies include privately held, sponsor-backed, and small-cap public companies with $5 million to $50 million of financings needs. Primary performance responsibilities include drafting pre-screen memorandums, independently prospecting, data-mining, compiling lists of target private equity firms and other appropriate referral sources, and helping the Asset Backed Finance group drive financial results for the bank.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently research borrower and private equity prospects based on the assigned group’s target profile.

  • Assist with due diligence/analysis with new client relationships, opportunity memos as appropriate.

  • Assist senior team members make presentations on specific loans and participate in the bank’s Loan Approval Process, recommending approval and appropriate structure of credits.

  • Participate in portfolio management and loan review as appropriate.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field. In-process MBA, MFin, CFA, or equivalent.

  • Must have experience building spreadsheets in Excel.

  • Familiar with prospecting and sales pipeline concepts.

  • 0-3 years of experience in commercial lending, ideally within specialty lending group or private debt fund.

  • Basic credit underwriting skills.

  • High energy level and the ability to work in a face-paced, dynamic business environment.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Good communication and organizational skills.
