CAPITAL & FINANCIAL PLANNING SPECIALIST (XA1114)
About The Position
The Capital & Financial Planning Specialist position is responsible for providing analysis and support in the development of benefits cases, financial, risk, and asset models, and analyzing data results and key metrics to inform leaders about the operational and financial performance of Ameren Missouri’s capital projects.
Key responsibilities include:
Assist in the development and continued enhancements of asset specific strategy whitepapers that clearly communicate Ameren Missouri’s long-term capital plan strategy including the justification of the need for the assets, the deployment strategy, the management strategy, and retirement strategy.
Support Ameren Missouri’s ongoing annual strategic planning and capital budget process by assisting in developing standards and expectations for the contents of business cases and project justifications and providing oversight to ensure the established standards are adhered to; maintain confidential and privileged information and report appropriate information to various levels of the organization. Also, support the development, testing, and implementation of capital project scoring frameworks which align with the Smart Energy Plan and asset specific strategies to assist in the optimization of over $1 billion of annual capital investments. This will include the development of customized frameworks for specific asset investment categories across the Ameren Missouri enterprise, asset health models, and financial modeling of capital projects.
Support execution of a strategic value realization process to ensure assets were deployed as planned and associated benefits are appropriately identified and baselines are captured. Collaborate with Ameren Missouri’s various functions to develop efficient processes for tracking, reporting, and approving performance on key metrics associated with Ameren Missouri’s capital investments. Develop and produce reports to support a routine and ongoing cadence of reviews of Ameren Missouri’s business performance with leadership. Track the follow-up of resulting actions to monitor compliance to the process.
Collect relevant information on capital projects to assist in the effective communication of Ameren Missouri’s progress in modernizing the energy grid for both internal and external stakeholders.
Addresses business problems in partnership with business stakeholders by reviewing and understand complex business and utility operations with minimal parameters and provide analysis findings the supervisor for reporting to upper management for best practices or areas of improvement.
Assist in organization-wide implementations of strategic and capital planning best practices through providing analysis of best practices from leading utilities & across asset-intensive industries. Where material gaps between best practices for capital planning and Ameren’s current processes exist, provide recommendations for implementing best practices.
Analyze business intelligence information using a variety of internal IT systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering or related field from an accredited University required. PMP, PE, CPA, CFA, MBA or similar advanced degree in business, finance, or economics preferred. Two or more years of relevant professional experience required (e.g. accounting, financial reporting, analysis or modeling, and business planning). A graduate degree in a closely related discipline (e.g., MBA, Master’s of Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, other financial/business discipline, Engineering, etc.) may be considered in lieu of two years of relevant experience.

Strong Verbal Communication Skills – Must demonstrate ability to build rapport and effectively communicate with senior leaders (e.g. Directors and Vice Presidents)
Strong Prioritization Skills – Frequent ad-hoc requests require the ability to prioritize and deliver products in a timely manner
Strong Analytical Skills – Candidate must be an analytical thinker with the ability to analyze, break down/aggregate and format large amounts of data to support decision making and communications.
Continuous Improvement Focus – Must maintain a continuous improvement/lean mindset. Supports cultural change by leveraging a thorough business and technical knowledge, change management and/or continuous improvement techniques, and a forward-thinking mindset.
Business Program Skills – In addition to above, advance skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Knowledge of Oracle based systems (e.g., Power BI) is preferred.
